Funding sources and fundraising

snvb promotes a free funding website (Funding Central) that enables local charities and small groups to access a huge range of funding opportunities.

This website is hosted by NCVO (The National Council for Voluntary Organisations) and funding by central government.

The website contains 1000’s of funding opportunities, many of which may be new to local groups. The site is easy to use and gives a wealth of information and tips and all relevant contact details.

Get searching for funds now!!

Funding Central is a database with a sophisticated search-engine that will allow you to probe for funding sources and grants from government, trusts, companies, charitable organisations and other bodies. You can register and then save your searches and create reports to help you along the way.

To get you started, here is a video clip introducing the website

There is also a series of "How to" videos on You Tube

We can also help you to build a sensible budget and find your way around the maze of funding options.  Whilst we cannot actually do your fundraising for you, we may be able to help you to target your efforts.  Additionally, we can review a funding application, prior to submission, and provide constructive feedback as we have two accredited funding development workers.

Volunteer recruitment

With nearly twenty years’ experience of recruiting volunteers for groups in the district, we use

  • posters,

  • newspapers,

  • leaflets,

  • village contacts,

  • local opportunity catalogues,

  • our Volunteer Centres,

  • public libraries and

  • the internet

to recruit volunteers for you.

We are the local agents for the National Volunteering Database www.do-it.org.

We can also offer advice on “good practice” to help you to keep your volunteers longer

Practical Support

The Volunteer Centres in Brackley and Towcester have small offices which can be rented on a sessional basis for advice providers. In addition the centre in Towcester has a meeting/training room available for up to 20 people. Both facilities are offered at reasonable rents and both buildings are fully accessible. We can also provide opportunity and event catalogues and advertise your activities and events at both our centres.

Advice and Guidance

SNVB can help with setting up a new organisation or developing an existing one. Advice is available on roles and responsibilities of committee members, how to run a meeting, keeping accounts, registering as a charity, etc.

IT

We can help you with advice from starting out on the IT road, to developing your IT skills, to building a website.

Networking

Link-up is a regular meeting of local agencies in the district, where there is sometimes a speaker, but always an opportunity to share ideas and problems and find solutions. In addition SNVB is part of a number of local partnerships and can link you in to their thinking. You can promote your activities through our regular newsletter with a circulation of about 500.

DBS (formerly CRB) checks

Our partner organisation, Nene Valley Community Action is a registered charity and, as part of their social enterprise endeavours, is also a registered DBS (formally CRB) umbrella body.

A DBS check is a standard practice of good recruitment for both staff and volunteers and is essential for those undertaking regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults.

NVCA would like to offer their service to your organisation and will take care of all the administration and provide any documentation required. They are also able to support you through their helpline on 01933 383474.

DBS Checks charges
Standard check for paid staff £39
Enhanced check for paid staff £55
DBS checks for volunteers £10

These charges incorporate all administration.

If you would like to start using the service please contact the telephone number above or email crb@nvca.org.uk stating your full details and how many DBS application forms you require.
